Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study examines the effects of Desmodesmus pannonicus water extract on skin health, highlighting its potential in treating hyperpigmentation, enhancing wound healing, and promoting hair growth. The extract demonstrated strong antioxidative properties, inhibited melanin production in B16F1 melanoma cells by suppressing tyrosinase expression, and promoted wound healing in HaCaT cells by enhancing cell migration and upregulating VEGF and MMP mRNA levels. It also influenced hair growth-related genes in human follicle dermal papilla cells, suggesting potential hair growth promotion and antiandrogenic effects. The extract showed no toxicity and exhibited strong antioxidant activity, making it a promising candidate for dermatological applications.
