TLDR Desmodesmus pannonicus water extract may help reduce skin pigmentation, heal wounds, and promote hair growth.
The study explored the benefits of Desmodesmus pannonicus water extract on various cell lines, revealing its strong antioxidative properties and ability to inhibit melanin production in melanoma cells without toxicity. It also promoted wound healing in keratinocyte cells by enhancing cell migration and upregulating VEGF and MMP mRNA levels. In human follicle dermal papilla cells, the extract influenced hair growth-related genes, increasing CTGF and HGF1 mRNA levels while reducing TGFβ1, suggesting potential for hair growth promotion and antiandrogenic effects. These findings highlight the extract's potential in treating hyperpigmentation, enhancing wound healing, and promoting hair growth, indicating its promise for dermatological applications.
