TLDR Topical minoxidil and finasteride help treat male baldness, while women benefit from antiandrogens and minoxidil.
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) was a prevalent condition affecting both men and women, with significant psychological impacts, particularly on women. In men, AGA affected up to 30% over the age of 30 and more than 50% over the age of 50. Women experienced milder symptoms, typically as diffuse thinning of scalp hair. The most promising treatments for male baldness included drug therapies like topical minoxidil and systemic finasteride. For women with mild to moderate AGA, antiandrogens and/or topical minoxidil were effective in many cases.
