Anti-Melanogenic And Anti-Oxidative Effects Of Nostoc Verrucosum Extracts

The study investigated the antimelanogenic and anti-oxidative effects of Nostoc verrucosum extracts. Methanol and hexane extracts significantly inhibited melanin synthesis in B16F1 melanoma cells, with the hexane extract suppressing tyrosinase activity and inhibiting mRNA expression of key melanogenic proteins. However, it did not affect Mitf transcription. All extracts showed radical scavenging activities, with the aqueous and methanol extracts having IC50 values of 294.6 and 172.8 µg/mL, respectively. These results suggest that N. verrucosum could be a promising candidate for developing antimelanogenic agents, cosmetics, or functional food ingredients.
