TLDR Finasteride reduces melanin production, possibly treating hyperpigmentation and melanoma, but needs more safety research.
A study from 5 years ago found that Finasteride can inhibit melanogenesis in melanocytes and melanoma cells by regulating the adenylate cyclase enzyme, potentially offering a treatment option for hyperpigmentation disorders and melanoma. The drug was found to decrease melanin production without causing harm to the cells. However, further research is needed to determine the safety and toxicity of the drug, especially at high doses.
