TLDR Two methods can measure finasteride and tamsulosin hydrochloride; HPLC is more advantageous, while TLC offers better separation.
The paper describes the development of two chromatographic methods for the determination of finasteride and tamsulosin hydrochloride in the presence of finasteride degradation product. The first method uses high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) separation of the drugs in the presence of the acid degradation product of finasteride, while the second method uses thin-layer chromatography (TLC)-densitometry. Both methods were validated according to International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines. The study found that the HPLC method was more advantageous than a reported method, with better resolution, higher capacity, and greater sensitivity. The TLC method provided better separation for FIN and TAM.

A 35-year-old started finasteride in 2014 for hair loss and maintained hair density for 7 years, occasionally using ketoconazole shampoo. Switched to dutasteride in 2022 due to increased hair fall, experimented with dosages, and found a combination with tamsulosin effective despite initial adverse reactions.
