The Influence of the Antimicrobial Topical Ointment, BlastX, on the Wound Healing Process in Uninfected and Staphylococcus Aureus Infected Wounds

    Kayla Bounds
TLDR BlastX helps heal uninfected wounds but doesn't improve healing in infected ones.
The study investigated the effects of BlastX wound gel on wound healing in both uninfected and Staphylococcus aureus infected wounds using a murine model. In uninfected wounds, BlastX promoted healing by enhancing neovascularization, organized scab development, and re-epithelization, while reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines. In infected wounds, BlastX effectively eliminated S. aureus but showed decreased re-epithelization and hair follicle formation, with increased M1 macrophages and reduced M2 macrophages. Overall, BlastX did not interfere with healing and may have enhanced it in uninfected wounds, with differences in infected wounds attributed to the initial infection.
