Studysummary This study tested a natural hair dye made from papaya seed extract, celery leaf, and avocado, finding color change in animal hair but also noting tissue changes like hyperkeratosis. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study investigated the effects of a combination of avocado extract, papaya seed, and celery on the skin and hair of mice. It used a true experimental design with 4 groups, including a control and three treatment groups with varying concentrations of the extract (0.1%, 1%, and 10%). The results showed changes in hair color from dark brown to dark-brown depending on the concentration, growth of hair follicles without affecting melanin-producing cells, and the presence of hyperkeratosis and hypergranulosis in the epidermis due to epithelial cell regeneration. The study concluded that the extract combination could promote hair follicle growth and serve as a natural hair dye.
