TLDR The Abrus precatorius extract can effectively promote hair growth similar to standard treatments.
The study, conducted on 24 Wistar albino rats divided into four groups of six, evaluated the hair growth promoting potential of an aqueous extract of Abrus precatorius leaf. The extract, containing flavonoids and saponins, was administered in doses of 150 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg. The 300 mg/kg dose showed hair growth activity comparable to the standard 2% minoxidil treatment, significantly reducing the time for hair growth initiation and completion, and increasing the percentage of hair follicles in the anagen phase. No significant changes in blood mineral concentrations were observed. The study concluded that Abrus precatorius extract has potent hair growth promoting activity and could serve as an effective alternative to synthetic hair growth promoters.
