TLDR Tectona grandis Linn. seeds extract improved hair growth in mice better than minoxidil.
In 2010, a study investigated the hair growth-promoting effects of petroleum ether extract from Tectona grandis Linn. seeds on albino mice. The extracts were used in 5% and 10% concentrations in an ointment base and compared to a 2% minoxidil solution. Results showed that both concentrations of the extract significantly decreased the time for hair growth initiation and completion, outperforming the 2% minoxidil. The extracts also induced a higher number of hair follicles to enter the anagenic phase of hair growth. Notably, the combination of the 5% extract with 2% minoxidil was particularly effective, indicating a possible synergistic effect. The study supported the traditional use of T. grandis seeds as a hair tonic in Indian medicine.
