TLDR Purple sweet potato leaf extracts can help treat hair loss and fungal infections.
This study explored the potential of Ipomoea batatas leaf extracts in treating alopecia by stimulating hair growth and inhibiting Malassezia furfur. The extracts demonstrated strong antifungal activity and significant hair growth stimulation compared to minoxidil. Key compounds identified through in silico analysis, such as pyropheophorbide A and quercetin, showed high affinity and stability in inhibiting androgen receptors. An optimized hair tonic formulation was developed using 96% ethanol, propylene glycol, and Tween 80. The findings suggest that I. batatas leaves could be a promising treatment for alopecia, warranting further research and development.
