TLDR Androgenetic alopecia is common in younger adults, especially with a family history.
The study conducted at a tertiary hospital in Trujillo, Peru, focused on the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of androgenetic alopecia (AAG) in 40 adult patients over a 6-month period. The results showed that 55% of the patients were male and 45% female, with the majority aged between 31-49 years. A significant 72.5% had a family history of AAG. In males, the typical grade IIIv pattern was most common, while females predominantly exhibited a diffuse grade I pattern. The most frequent duration of the disease was 1-5 years, and the hair pull test was negative in most cases. The study highlights the prevalence of AAG in younger adults, particularly those with a family history of the condition.
