TLDR PRP use in skin care and plastic surgery is growing, especially in the U.S. and Italy.
This bibliometric analysis of 1,931 articles on platelet-rich plasma (PRP) applications in skin and plastic surgery from 2001 to 2021 highlights a significant increase in publications, with the US, Italy, and China as top contributors. PRP has shown promise in wound healing, collagen synthesis, and hair follicle regeneration, particularly in facial rejuvenation, scar treatment, and alopecia. Despite its potential, the study emphasizes the need for standardized PRP preparation methods and dosages. Future research directions include micro-innovative PRP preparations, optimal dosing, and integration with new technologies like stem cells and 3D printing. The study underscores the necessity for more high-quality trials to validate PRP's clinical effectiveness.
