    Head lice, scientifically known as Pediculus humanus capitis, are tiny parasitic insects that infest the scalp and hair of humans. They feed on blood from the scalp, causing itching and discomfort. Infestations, known as pediculosis capitis, are common, especially among children, and are spread through direct head-to-head contact or sharing personal items like combs and hats.
