    GlossaryCrohn's disease (granulomatous colitis)

chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract

Crohn's disease, also known as regional enteritis or granulomatous colitis, is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract. It can affect any part of the digestive system from the mouth to the anus, but most commonly impacts the end of the small intestine (ileum) and the beginning of the colon. Symptoms often include abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, and fatigue. The exact cause is unknown, but it involves an abnormal immune response that leads to inflammation.
