February 2007 in “Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology” This study investigated the effectiveness of combining eflornithine cream with laser treatment for facial hirsutism in women, compared to laser treatment alone. Conducted as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with 31 participants, it found that the combination of eflornithine and laser treatment resulted in significantly better hair removal outcomes. At the study's conclusion, 93.5% of the eflornithine-laser treated sites achieved complete or almost complete hair removal, compared to 67.9% for the placebo-laser treated sites. The study demonstrated that adding eflornithine to laser treatment led to a more rapid and complete reduction of unwanted facial hair over a 6-month period. However, it did not assess the long-term durability of these results beyond 6 months.
