TLDR 848 genes related to fat and metabolism are less active in people with Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia.
The study analyzed gene expression in five patients with Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA) and found a significant downregulation of 848 genes associated with lipid metabolism and fatty acid biosynthesis. Out of over 20,000 genes examined, the 200 most downregulated were significantly related to these processes, with the PRKAA2 gene, important for AMPK subunit encoding, being 34% less expressed in CCCA-affected scalp tissue. Additionally, linoleic acid metabolism was notably disrupted. These results indicate that metabolic abnormalities may contribute to the development of CCCA.
