TLDR Urotensin II increases growth and VEGF production in rat skin cells by turning on the Wnt-β-catenin pathway.
The study investigated the effect of Urotensin II (U II) on the proliferation and secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in rat dermal papilla cells (DPCs). The results showed that U II increased the mRNA expression of proliferation markers Ki67 and PCNA, and activated the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. However, the Wnt inhibitor DKK1 reversed the effect of U II. Therefore, the study concluded that U II promoted the proliferation and secretion of VEGF in rat DPCs through the activation of the Wnt-β-catenin signaling pathway.
