TLDR Topical cyclosporin-A is recommended for severe alopecia areata.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of topical cyclosporin-A (CsA) in treating alopecia areata (AA) in 12 patients who were resistant to previous treatments. CsA was applied in two different concentrations on different sides of the scalp once a week. Results showed that six patients with focal type AA experienced moderate recovery, while among the six patients with alopecia totalis, four showed moderate recovery and two showed no response. The study concluded that topical CsA therapy was recommended for severe and refractory AA.
