TLDR Topical cetirizine with microneedling effectively promotes hair growth in men with androgenetic alopecia.
A study conducted at Beni-Suef University Hospital evaluated the efficacy of microneedling-administered topical cetirizine in treating androgenetic alopecia in 80 male patients. Participants were divided into two groups: 40 received cetirizine microneedling, and 40 received saline microneedling over 8 weeks. Results showed that the cetirizine group had a significantly higher prevalence of vellus hair (70%) compared to the saline group (30%), and enhanced hair density was observed in 80% of the cetirizine group versus 25% in the saline group. The study concluded that 1% topical cetirizine via microneedling is effective in promoting hair growth in male androgenetic alopecia without notable adverse effects.
