TLDR Finasteride can still be used for hair loss with careful consideration of side effects and patient information.
Finasteride was used as a relatively efficient treatment for male androgenic alopecia and benign prostatic hyperplasia, but concerns about adverse effects, some irreversible, arose over time. The review concluded that Finasteride could still be a therapeutic option for male androgenic alopecia due to two reasons: the synergistic action with compounds like Minoxidil is preferable to complete 5α-reductase suppression, preserving dihydrotestosterone's physiological roles, and the potential to predict side effects using patient information such as hand preference and sexual orientation before therapy onset.
