TLDR Stem cells can rejuvenate skin, restore hair, and aid in wound healing.
Stem cells, which can be embryonic or adult, have the potential to rejuvenate skin and restore hair by producing new skin cells through division and differentiation. Epidermal stem cells, located in niches such as the interfollicular epidermis and hair follicles, renew the epidermis, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles. Dermal stem cells, found in hair papillae and around pericytes, form various specialized dermal cells. The Wnt signaling pathway plays a crucial role in controlling stem cell fate. Stem cells may aid in wound healing, tissue repair, and the regeneration of aged skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
