TLDR Human scalp hair follicles have PGE2 and its receptors, which might affect hair growth.
The document reported that human scalp hair follicles express the prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) lipid mediator and its receptors (EP2), suggesting a potential role for PGE2 in regulating hair growth. This finding was based on the use of electrospray tandem mass spectrometry, RT-PCR, and immunohistochemistry to analyze scalp skin samples from non-balding areas of healthy donors. The presence of PGE2 and EP2 in the scalp hair follicles indicates that they may be involved in hair growth processes and could lead to new treatments for hair loss disorders such as alopecia. The study aimed to improve the understanding of hair growth regulation, which could help in developing better treatments for hair growth disorders that often cause significant psychological distress.
