TLDR Platelet-rich plasma didn't increase hair length but may help keep hair follicles alive.
The study involved 10 patients with androgenetic alopecia and examined the impact of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), various storage solutions, and temperatures on hair follicle preservation. It was found that hair follicles cultured in Williams’ Medium E at 37°C showed the most growth, but adding PRP to the culture medium did not significantly increase hair follicle length. However, hair follicles preserved with PRP showed higher levels of CK15, a stem cell marker, indicating PRP may help preserve hair follicle viability. The study also found that 37°C and Williams’ Medium E were better for hair follicle growth compared to 4°C and RLS, but there was no significant difference in preserving hair follicle viability. The study's limitations included low hair growth rates and the use of only one PRP concentration. Further research is needed to determine the optimal PRP concentration and its exact effect on hair preservation.
