Promotional Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma on Hair Follicle Reconstitution in vivo

    TLDR Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) increases the number of new hair follicles and speeds up hair formation.
    In 2013, a study was conducted to examine the impact of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) on hair follicle reconstitution. The research involved grafting a mixture of epidermal cells and dermal papilla cells (DPCs) with varying concentrations of activated PRP onto the skin of mice. The results indicated a significant increase in the number of new follicles in the reconstituted skin area (344 ± 27 with 10% PRP vs 288± 35 without PRP). PRP also significantly reduced the time of hair formation. The study concluded that PRP considerably influenced the timing of hair formation and the yield of hair follicle reconstitution, but recommended further studies to understand PRP's mechanism of action.
