Pressure-induced alopecias (PAs) are rare hair loss conditions caused by ischemic obstruction of capillaries, with two main types: type 1 PA from prolonged external pressure (e.g., surgeries) and type 2 PA from cosmetic procedures with injectables. Differentiating type 2 PA from vascular occlusion-induced alopecia is important. Symptoms include erythema, swelling, tenderness, and sometimes just hair loss. Severe cases may lead to scarring. Early diagnosis is crucial to prevent complications, and while hair regrowth is common, the prognosis depends on ischemia severity and timely treatment. The effectiveness of treatments like topical minoxidil and corticosteroids remains unclear.
