TLDR Mesotherapy for hair loss can sometimes cause more hair loss and scarring.
The study reported three cases of patients who developed patchy hair loss at the sites of mesotherapy injections for androgenetic alopecia. Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure involving intradermal injections of various substances for medical or cosmetic purposes. The patients, all women with different grades of androgenetic alopecia, experienced hair loss after several mesotherapy sessions that had previously been uneventful. Clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings indicated an inflammatory scarring process at the injection sites. One patient showed slight improvement after using minoxidil 5%, while another had a good response to topical Melatonin solution. The study concluded that mesotherapy for androgenetic alopecia might paradoxically induce hair loss and scarring, highlighting the need for proper regulation and monitoring of mesotherapy products used for treating hair loss.
