TLDR Getting a hyaluronic acid filler can sometimes cause temporary hair loss due to pressure on an artery, not blockage.
A 54-year-old woman experienced temporary hair loss after receiving a hyaluronic acid filler injection in the temporal region. Clinical and ultrasound assessments indicated that the hair loss was due to external compression of the artery rather than intra-arterial obstruction. The patient was treated with ultrasound-guided hyaluronidase injections, which restored blood flow and resolved symptoms. Hair growth was fully restored within nine months. This case suggests that filler injections can cause temporary hair loss through arterial compression, challenging the common belief that such events are due to intra-arterial obstruction.
