TLDR Longer CAG repeats in gene linked to more severe hair loss in females.
This document summarizes two studies on female pattern hair loss (FPHL) patients. The first study found no correlation between the CAG repeat numbers in the androgen receptor (AR) gene and the therapeutic efficacy of finasteride in 37 Japanese FPHL patients. The second study found a correlation between the length of the CAG repeat polymorphism in the AR gene and the severity of hair loss in FPHL patients. The longer the CAG repeat, the more severe the hair loss.
