TLDR Rice bran extract can increase melanin production and may help treat melanin deficiency.
The study investigated the effects of rice bran ash extract (RBE) and orthosilicic acid (OSA) on melanogenesis. It found that both RBE and OSA increased melanin synthesis and intracellular tyrosinase activity in melanocytes, with protein expression levels of TRP‐1, tyrosinase, and MITF being 2-3 times higher than in the control group. This increase was linked to CREB phosphorylation. Despite some stress indicated by LDH activity, cell viability remained similar between RBE and OSA treatments. The findings suggested that RBE, containing specific minerals like orthosilicic acid, could promote melanin synthesis and serve as a potential therapeutic approach for melanin deficiency-related conditions.
