TLDR PCOS affects health and quality of life, with effective treatments available and a need for more research on alternative therapies.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) was recognized as a common endocrine and metabolic disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors. An expert consensus panel of endocrinologists and gynecologists identified six key resolutions: PCOS negatively impacted reproduction, general and sexual health, and quality of life; symptoms appeared early, especially in female newborns from PCOS carriers; women with PCOS faced higher risks of pregnancy-related complications like gestational diabetes; a male equivalent of PCOS existed, affecting metabolic health and possibly reproduction; medical therapy for PCOS was effective and evidence-based; and there was a need for research into the benefits of nutraceutical therapy for PCOS. These resolutions were based on current scientific evidence.
