TLDR Oral Vitamin D can improve hair density and reduce hair loss in Telogen Effluvium patients.
This study evaluated the impact of oral Vitamin D supplementation on 40 patients with Telogen Effluvium (TE) compared to 20 healthy controls. TE patients had significantly lower serum 25(OH) Vitamin D levels (13.31 ± 5.8 ng/ml) than controls (33.61 ± 8.16 ng/ml, P < 0.001). After 3 months of taking 5000 IU/day of Vitamin D, TE patients showed significant improvement in hair shedding scores (from 5.50 ± 0.51 to 1.75 ± 0.84, P = 0.001) and dermoscopic findings, with increased hair density and fewer empty follicles. Patient satisfaction was high, with 50% highly satisfied. The study concludes that Vitamin D supplementation can significantly improve TE symptoms.

A 20-year-old male has been experiencing hair loss for three years due to a vitamin D deficiency and has seen no improvement after 3.5 months of taking supplements. Another person suggested that if the hair loss follows a pattern, it might be regular baldness rather than due to the deficiency.
