TLDR Taking vitamin D3 pills helped improve hair growth in women with a certain type of hair loss.
In 2021, a study was conducted on 40 adult women suffering from telogen effluvium (TE), a type of hair loss, in south Punjab, Pakistan. The women were treated with oral vitamin D3 (200,000 IU) therapy every two weeks, with a total of 6 doses given to each patient. The results showed significant improvement in hair growth, particularly in younger women (r=0.457, p<0.003) and those who did not use sunscreen (r=−0.331, p<0.037) but frequently consumed milk or milk protein (r=−0.311, p<0.051). Overall, vitamin D3 therapy improved the condition in 82.5% (p<0.001) of the patients. Therefore, the use of oral vitamin D3 (200,000 IU, fortnightly) for 3 months resulted in significant improvement in hair regrowth in patients with TE.
