Telogen Effluvium: Potential Causes in Iraq

TLDR Low iron and vitamin D3 levels might be major causes of hair loss in Iraqi women.
The study conducted from March 2014 to June 2015 aimed to identify the main risk factors of Telogen Effluvium (TE), a common hair loss problem among women, in Thi-Qar Province, Iraq. The study involved 100 women with TE and 100 healthy controls. The researchers measured the levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), serum Ferritin, and Vitamin D3 in both groups. The results showed a significant association between a positive family history of hair loss and women with TE. However, no significant difference was found in TSH levels between the two groups. The study found significantly lower serum Ferritin and Vitamin D3 levels among women with TE. The conclusion of the study was that low serum Ferritin and Vitamin D3 levels might play a major role in the etiology of TE.
