TLDR Low ferritin levels might be linked to telogen effluvium, but vitamin D levels are not.
The study examined 30 patients with telogen effluvium (TE) and compared their serum ferritin and vitamin D levels to those of a control group of 30 healthy individuals. The results showed that patients with TE had significantly lower serum ferritin levels than the control group, suggesting a link between low ferritin levels and TE. However, no significant difference in vitamin D levels was found between the two groups. The study also found no correlation between serum ferritin and vitamin D levels with age, sex, or duration of TE. Despite reports of vitamin D deficiency in certain populations, this study did not find a significant association with TE. The authors recommended routine testing for serum ferritin and vitamin D in TE patients and called for larger studies to further investigate these relationships.
