TLDR Cox-2 significantly contributes to the development and progression of skin and esophageal cancers.
The document reviewed experimental evidence on the roles of cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) in the initiation and progression of skin and esophageal malignancies, particularly squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). It highlighted the importance of understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of tumor development to improve prevention and therapy. Recent studies identified the cellular origins of these cancers and the mechanisms used by stem/progenitor cells to initiate tumors. The findings suggested that Cox-2 played a significant role in tumorigenesis and differentiation in these cancer types.
