TLDR Hair follicle regeneration may slow tumor growth.
A study from 2019 found that hair follicle regeneration can suppress the growth of Ras-driven tumors in mice. The hair follicle possesses a unique ability to integrate and contain Hras mutant cells within both homeostatic and perturbed tissue, demonstrating that in the skin, multiple, distinct mechanisms exist to suppress oncogenic growth. The study suggests that hair follicle regeneration could be a potential therapeutic strategy for treating Ras-driven cancers.
