TLDR Routine monitoring isn't needed for healthy patients on low-dose oral minoxidil, but is advised for those with kidney issues.
This study evaluates the necessity of routine monitoring for patients treated with low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) for hair disorders. Conducted as a retrospective analysis at a tertiary hair clinic, it assessed clinical and laboratory parameters every 6 months over a period from April 2017 to June 2020. The results indicated that heart rate, weight, renal function, and liver function remained stable throughout the treatment, with no statistically significant changes. Consequently, the study concludes that regular monitoring is not required for asymptomatic patients with normal baseline values. However, it recommends ongoing monitoring for patients with preexisting renal impairment, particularly those with moderate-to-advanced disease. This study is notable for providing longitudinal data on LDOM treatment for up to 36 months.
