There Is a Positive Dose-Dependent Association Between Low-Dose Oral Minoxidil and Its Efficacy for Androgenetic Alopecia: Findings From a Systematic Review With Meta-Regression Analyses

    The systematic review and meta-regression analyses by Aditya K. Gupta and colleagues found a positive dose-dependent association between low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) and its efficacy in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Analyzing six studies, the research showed that increasing the dosage of LDOM significantly improved hair diameter, total hair density, and terminal hair density after six months. However, higher doses also increased the risk of hypertrichosis and cardiovascular adverse events. The study concludes that while LDOM is effective in promoting hair growth, it also carries associated risks, highlighting the need for future randomized trials to confirm these findings and determine the optimal dose.
