TLDR Using microneedling with PRP improves skin and hair conditions more than microneedling alone.
The document reviews the use of microneedling in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for skin rejuvenation, alopecia treatment, and acne scarring. Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, involves puncturing the skin with small needles to stimulate collagen production, while PRP is a concentration of platelets from blood plasma that contains growth factors to promote healing and collagen synthesis. The combination of these therapies is believed to enhance cosmetic outcomes and reduce recovery time. Studies cited in the document show benefits for acne scars and alopecia, with better results than microneedling alone. One study with 68 patients found that microneedling with minoxidil significantly increased hair counts compared to minoxidil alone after 12 weeks. Another trial with 93 patients showed improved hair growth with the combination of microneedling and PRP over treatments with minoxidil alone or minoxidil plus PRP. Despite promising results, standardized research is needed to establish protocols for PRP use in aesthetic practices, as there is currently no consensus on the optimal frequency, dosing, and maintenance for PRP treatments.
