TLDR Different PCOS characteristics affect lipid profiles, increasing cardiovascular disease risk, so regular lipid screening is advised.
This retrospective study analyzed the lipid profiles of 700 Chinese women with PCOS, finding that 41.3% had dyslipidemia, with low HDL being the most common. Insulin resistance and clinical hyperandrogenism were significant risk factors for dyslipidemia, with odds ratios of 2.202 and 1.744, respectively. Triglycerides, apolipoprotein B, and the TG/HDL ratio were positively correlated with insulin resistance. The study emphasized the importance of metabolic monitoring in PCOS patients, especially those with insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism, to manage cardiovascular disease risk. Limitations included its cross-sectional design and potential selection bias.
