TLDR Niosomes are the most effective at delivering drugs to the skin with minimal absorption into the body.
The study evaluated various lipid-based nanoformulations for skin-targeted drug delivery, finding niosomes to be the most effective. Niosomes showed superior skin deposition, reduced systemic absorption, enhanced hair follicle uptake, and increased antioxidant ability, particularly with higher phospholipid content. They demonstrated significant potential for treating inflammatory skin diseases, alopecia, and acne by improving drug solubility and follicular uptake, with minimal skin irritation observed in vivo. The findings suggest that niosomes are promising candidates for efficient cutaneous drug delivery, though further clinical validation is needed.
