TLDR A unique case showed a rare combination of two types of lichen planus on the face.
In 2021, a unique case was reported that combined characteristics of two distinct forms of lichen planus: lichen planus pigmentosus, which typically manifests as sudden onset hyperpigmented macules and patches, and lichen planopilaris, a scarring follicular variant leading to permanent alopecia. While it is not unusual for different variants of lichen planus to coexist clinically, this was the first documented instance of linear lichen planus pigmentosus on the face exhibiting histological features of lichen planopilaris, representing a hybrid presentation of these two conditions.
