TLDR Higher levels of certain proteins in hair loss areas may help understand and treat hair loss.
The study investigated the secretome profiling of Adipose Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) from different scalp areas in 6 male patients with early-stage Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA). It found that levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), Endothelial Growth Factor (EGF), and Eotaxin were significantly higher in the alopecia zone compared to other areas. Similarly, Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-3 (MCP-3), Interferon gamma-inducible Protein-10 (IP-10), and Macrophage Inflammatory Protein - 1 alpha (MIP-1𝛼) showed increased levels in the alopecia zone, while Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 (MCP-1) was lowest in this zone. These findings highlighted the importance of understanding signaling molecule differences for therapeutic approaches and understanding AGA etiology.
