Intradermal injections of a hair growth factor formulation for enhancement of human hair regrowth – safety and efficacy evaluation in a first-in-man pilot clinical study
February 2018
in “Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy”
TLDR The QR 678 hair growth treatment was safe and effective for hair regrowth in men and women.
In a 2018 pilot clinical study involving 1,000 patients (680 males and 320 females), a hair growth factor formulation (QR 678) containing various growth factors was tested for its ability to enhance human hair regrowth. The treatment, consisting of eight sessions of intradermal injections every three weeks, led to 83% of patients experiencing a significant reduction in hair fall, with a decrease in vellus hairs, an increase in terminal hairs, and an increase in shaft diameter. Seventy-five percent of patients believed in the treatment's effectiveness, and a statistically significant increase in total hair count (P = 0.002) was observed at one year. The treatment was well tolerated, with 15% of patients reporting slight itching and most experiencing tolerable pain during injections. The study concluded that the QR 678 treatment was safe and effective for treating hair loss in both men and women, with no serious adverse effects reported. However, the study did not include a control group, which is a limitation; randomized controlled trials are in progress to further validate the findings.
