TLDR The questionnaire effectively measures men's perceived hair growth and can distinguish between different treatments and dosages.
In 1998, researchers developed a questionnaire to assess patient-perceived changes in hair growth and appearance for men with androgenetic alopecia. The questionnaire, which was refined to seven questions after testing in an observational study with 204 participants and a placebo-controlled clinical trial with 181 participants, demonstrated significant differences favoring active treatment over placebo by 6 months. It showed statistically significant correlations with hair count changes (P-value < 0.0039) and had good to excellent test-retest reliability. The tool was sensitive enough to detect differences among dosage groups and to distinguish between men seeking treatment for hair loss and those who were not. This questionnaire provides a valuable measure of patient perception, complementing clinical measures in clinical trials.
