TLDR HB-EGF boosts the hair growth ability of stem cells, making it a potential hair loss treatment.
The study concluded that HB-EGF (Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor) significantly enhanced the hair regenerative potential of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phosphorylating Hck. This treatment led to increased hair follicle formation and growth in mouse models, suggesting that HB-EGF could be a promising therapeutic agent for hair loss by improving ADSC functions. Key mechanisms included ROS generation via NOX4 activity in mitochondria and the secretion of thrombopoietin (THPO), which stimulated dermal papilla cells (DPCs).
