Hair-Growth Promoting Activity of Plant Extracts of Suruhan (Peperomia Pellucida) in Rabbits
October 2017
TLDR Suruhan plant extract may increase hair length but not hair mass in rabbits.
In 2017, a study was conducted on four healthy male rabbits to investigate the effects of ethanolic plant extract of suruhan, also known as Peperomia pellucida, on hair growth. The rabbits were treated twice daily for 21 days with varying concentrations of suruhan extract. The results showed that the plant extract significantly increased the length of the rabbits' hair in a concentration-related manner. However, compared to both negative and positive controls, the suruhan plant extracts had no significant effect on the hair mass of the animals. This suggests that the ethanolic plant extract of Peperomia pellucida has potential to be used in topical formulations for hair growth.
