TLDR Mg-doped ZnO nanoparticles from plant extract effectively heal second-degree burns.
This study explored the green synthesis of ZnO and Mg-doped ZnO nanoparticles using Ferulago angulata extract and their effects on second-degree burn wound healing. Characterization techniques confirmed the successful synthesis of these nanoparticles. The Mg-doped ZnO NPs at 500 µg/mL showed the highest antioxidant activity. Cytotoxicity tests revealed decreased cell viability at higher concentrations, particularly at 1000 µg/mL. The nanoparticles exhibited significant antibacterial and antifungal properties against various pathogens. After 21 days of treatment, ointments containing these nanoparticles promoted wound closure, hair growth, and skin regeneration, with the Mg-doped ZnO NPs showing enhanced collagenization, epithelialization, and increased hair follicle formation, indicating effective wound healing.
