TLDR Dexamethasone helps wound healing in septic mice but delays it in normal mice.
This study investigated the effects of a single perioperative dose of dexamethasone on wound healing in mice with and without sepsis. The research found that dexamethasone at 1 mg/kg promoted wound healing in septic mice by alleviating excessive inflammation and maintaining a balance of M1/M2 macrophages. Conversely, in normal mice, the same dose delayed wound healing due to reduced inflammation and insufficient macrophage presence. The safe dosage range for dexamethasone was broader in septic mice (0.121 to 2.03 mg/kg) compared to normal mice (0 to 0.633 mg/kg). These findings suggest that dexamethasone can be beneficial for wound healing in septic conditions but may hinder the process in non-septic conditions.
