TLDR Silver nanoparticles from Ziziphus nummularia leaves have better antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and hair growth effects than the leaf extract alone.
The study demonstrated the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Ziziphus nummularia leaf extract, which acted as a reducing and capping agent. The nanoparticles, characterized by techniques like UV-Visible spectrophotometry and SEM, were spherical with diameters of 4-6.5 nm. They exhibited superior antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and hair growth properties compared to the leaf extract alone. For example, against E. coli, the nanoparticles had a 17.5 mm inhibition zone versus 10.5 mm for the extract. The nanoparticles also showed lower MIC and MBC values, indicating higher antimicrobial efficacy. Additionally, they promoted better hair growth in rabbits. The study concluded that silver nanoparticles synthesized from Ziziphus nummularia leaves had enhanced biological activities over the plant extract.
